Jenny Sturtevant returns to Carroty Wood

Gosh – where did the year go? It seems only last month that the young people of three parishes were participating in the premiere of The Carroty Wood Bake Off, now we were about to witness the sequel.  Last year it was decorating a muffin to illustrate the Kingdom of Heaven, this year the contestants had to create a wedding cake. The reason behind this choice? The young people of St Alban’s, South Norwood, St Michael’s, Abbey Wood and St Augustine’s, Belvedere had been looking at the meaning and implications of the story of the Wedding in Cana with Fr Philip Barnes, the Bishop of Fulham’s Catholic Missioner. This workshop took place on the second of a three day stay at Carroty Wood in Kent during the October half term; the theme being Mary, Cause of our Joy.

As well as attending a daily Mass, the young people (and the leaders) took part in outdoor activities such as raft building, archery, abseiling and high ropes. These activities tested the resilience and courage of all regardless of age, accompanied by much encouragement, fun and laughter.

The activity was only able to take place thanks to generous grants by the Society of Mary and the Croydon Episcopal Area Mission Fund.
